The Union Redskins (10-0) claimed their second major tournament championship of the year last week at the Putnam City Invitational thus solidifying their number one ranking and role of the favorite going forward in class 6A.

The Redskins took the championship at the Tournament of Champions before the first of the year knocking off then number two Midwest City and number one Edmond North.

The Redskins then took the championship of the PCI, beating number seven and host school Putnam City West in the weather delayed tournament final Monday. The trio of Adrian Rodriguez, Ethan Chargois and Mo Garcia combined for 47 of the teams 58 points in their 58 to 50 victory over the Patriots.

"Our guys inside are the key to our success," said Coach Rudy Garcia. "If they play well we usually play better as a team." Chargois is an SMU commit averaging almost 16 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. "Ethan is 6'9, very athletic, can handle the basketball as well as shoot it from the outside as and Adrian (15 ppg 8 reb) is just a warrior," Garcia said.  "My son Mo (8.5ppg, 4.6 RPG) does a lot of things well on the floor for us and kind of keeps us together," Garcia added. "Plus we got a bunch of role guys that are doing what we need them to do to have success"

Garcia also said he would like to see the team shoot the ball better and continue to develop some depth in their lineup.

The Redskins play at Muskogee Tuesday and then play at the annual Jenks/Union tournament next weekend.
