The third week of January always means great basketball tournaments in Oklahoma and this year is no exception.

Some of the larger tournaments include the Jenks/Union tournament, the John Nobles Tournament at Moore, the Bruce Gray at Deer Creek and the Shawnee Invitational just to name a few. However the best field of all may be at this year’s Titan Classic at Carl Albert High School.

The tournament begins at 11:30am Thursday when #3 Midwest City (10-2) will take on the Bixby Spartans who are ranked 19th with a record of 5-6. The Bombers are led by Keyshawn Embery (6’3) and Jalen Redmond (6’4) both juniors, who have drawn quite a bit of attention from several D-1 schools. The Bombers two losses were to #2 Edmond North in the finals of the Edmond Open in December and to #1 Union in the semifinals of the Tournament of Champions.

The second game of the Titan Classic features the #1 team in 5A, the host Carl Albert Titans taking on the McAlester Buffaloes. The defending state champions are 12-0 on the year and return three starters from last year’s team. Juniors Mason Harrell and Trey Hopkins return at guard while Nate Cook (6’7, Sr.) is the rim protector in the middle.

#2 Edmond North (10-1) will take on the Millwood Falcons (3-9) in the first game of the evening session at 5:30pm. The Huskies won the Edmond Open in early December and their only loss came against #1 Union in the finals of the Tournament of Champions. The Huskies leaders are Marques Wilson (6’5, Sr.), Marvin Johnson (6’5, Sr.) and Ardmore transfer Carlos Coppage (5’10, Sr.).

The night cap will have a battle of Tigers as an improved Norman (6-5) team will take on Ardmore (7-7) at 7:00pm.

Semifinals will be at 5:30pm and 7:00pm Friday with the championship finals set for Saturday at 7:00pm.
