The defending state champion Choctaw Yellowjackets wrestlers dominated the field at the Dual-State District tournament Tuesday at Southmoore high school.

The Jackets tore through Del City in the first match of the afternoon winning 67-3, then dominated Southmoore 69-13 before clinching the district championship with a convincing 64-3 win over Edmond Santa Fe.

The Jackets won both the Dual-State championship and the team championship last year and return many of the same wrestlers that brought the title back to Choctaw under head coach Benny Coleman.

“A lot of these guys were there for us last year,” Coleman said. “We have Cole Newton (120lbs), Jaryn Curry (160lbs), Connor Holman (132lbs), Easton Rendleman (182lbs), Zane Coleman (170lbs), Zach Austin (285lbs) they were all State placers for us last year.” Coleman also indicated some other youngsters have stepped up for the Jackets too. “Gabe Johnson (113lbs) a freshman has done a real good job ranked #2 right now, so some of the young kids are stepping up, they need five more weeks to get ready for state because they’re not there yet.”

Other winners for the Jackets:

Clayton Hanna at 126

Briar Eaton at 138

Blake Muse at 145

Thad Williams at 152

Caulin Poole at 220
